Recently I went to a Paul Gilbert Masterclass. This isn’t the first time I have seen or met Paul, I am a big fan of his playing and his teaching! But this time I had a little mission! I decided to take my ‘Learn to Play Paul Gilbert’ Lick Library DVD down to the Masterclass to give to Paul as a gift (not that he needs it!) but more of a gesture/token of my appreciation of his inspiration to my playing over the years!
I gave him the DVD and he seemed happy to see it, he had a big line of people waiting for him to have photos taken/get stuff signed, I didn’t wish to take up to much of his time. I hope he checks it out some day.
Here is a photo of him signing my Ibanez RG2550Z, can you see my LickLibrary DVD in the background! 🙂
Paul is obviously a busy guy and meets thousands of guitarists every year through his clinics and shows. But I did get a chance to Jam with him back in 2009! It was really fun, we traded riffs and he showed me and my friends some cool guitar stuff! He wrote on the back of my Intense Rock Complete DVD, I have this framed in my hallway now, and every time I get musically frustrated with my playing or writing I remind myself of that jam!
The recent Mask of Judas tour with Valis Ablaze and Taken by the Tide was a complete success! Great crows, great bands and great people! I met loads of new friends who had found Mask of Judas through my work with LickLibrary, my YouTube channel and Ibanez/Laney demos that I have done. It really means a lot when someone enjoys what I do, so to those who came down to a show, thank you so much! 🙂
In other news, I have recently been handed a copy of the exceptionally tallented Tomaz Andzejewski’s album ‘Universum’. I was lucky enough to have him ask me to do a guest solo on the track ‘Boogie Boo’. Its an honor to be part of this amazing album, some of the other guest musicians are some of my heros: Marco Sfogli, Feodor Dosumov, Brett Garsed and Alex Argento. There’s a whole host of other amazing musicians on this album, this is a must for any instrumental guitar fan!
Over the next two months my band Mask of Judas is hitting the studio to record our Debut album, I am really excited about getting this monster recorded. It has taken ALOT of work and I am excited to get these songs out! We shall be playing these songs at UK Tech Metal festival this year! Come down, its going to be great!
I also have a whole host of work coming up with LickLibrary, I am currently learning some Paganini, which is providing a great technical challenge for me, more info soon!
Hello all! Its been a long time since I last updated, I have been very busy, which isn’t a bad thing! Here are some cool things that have happened and will happen soon!
After 3 months of practice, hard work and only 2 days to film, teach and perform 5 Paul Gilbert songs. The LickLibrary ‘Learn to Play Paul Gilbert’ DVD is now available, check it out!
On Thursday the 19th of Feb I took part in a really cool Guitar Masterclass and Performance with some of the UK’s finest guitarists: Tom Quayle, Lewis Turner and Levi Clay. We talked about playing over changes, professional musicianship and tapping! At the end of the awesome day we jammed some Jazz, most of you will know I love Jazz Fusion, but I am more of a Rock player, but it was fun to play John Coltrane, John Schofield and Jaco Pastorius tunes. I even managed to get some Divebomb harmonics into the jam! Footage will arise soon!
I have been demoing and testing some great new gear from Laney Amplification. The Laney IRT Pulse. Check out more info here: http://www.laney.co.uk/news/introducing-the-irt-pulse
On the 2nd of March my band Mask of Judas hits the road around the UK with Valis Ablaze and Taken By The Tide, it would be great to see some faces!
Once we are back from tour we will hit the studio to record our new album! Whilst doing that I have lots of great stuff coming up with Ibanez, Laney, LickLibrary, Guitar Interactive Magazine and maybe even my own solo album. Watch this space 🙂
I haven’t been on here in a while due to the busy Christmas/New Year Period, I have been very busy and I have some awesome things coming up over the next few months!
I went into LickLibrary in December to film the ‘Learn to Play Paul Gilbert’ DVD and I have to say I am really excited to see how it turns out. Its been a grueling 3 months of solid practice to get my chops up for this and I can’t wait to see the finished result. There is no definite release date as of yet however it won’t be TOO long 🙂
Here is a clip of me warming up on the first day of filming:
Ibanez were very kind to lend me a Paul Gilbert signature model guitar, its the FRM250 and its limited edition, it is an awesome piece of kit, here is some improvisation with a low gain sound so you can hear how awesome this guitar is!
If you are in the UK in February on the 19th in Kent then you could be lucky enough to attend an awesome masterclass/performance I am taking part in with Tom Quayle, Lewis Turner and Levi Clay! Check the video below for more information and links!
My Friend Douglas has put together an awesome instrumental cover of ‘The Bad Thing’ by Periphery. He asked me to lay down Mark Holcombs’s awesome guitar solo. Check it out!
In other news I have lots of exciting projects coming up, some of which I can’t say right now but they are just around the corner so please be patient! I am currently busy learning a College production of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ Musical, and I get to play loads of Brian May solos, can’t wait! 😀

These guitar lessons include 3 Unique backing tracks, interactive jamming, on screen scale diagrams, chords charts and transcriptions of 27 solos & technique lessons!
This superb DVD is a new and unique way to have fun, study and jam all at the same time. The DVD contains three top quality backing tracks, and can be approached in two ways, first you can “JAM” with the tracks flying solo, experimenting with different ideas, licks and solos. Alternatively you can trade solos with Sam, drawing inspiration from the ideas and techniques used in his solos.
Each track has three performances from Sam working across three levels of difficulty. Although the solos are improvised he has taken care to go for a basic intermediate and advanced level for each track. All the solos are transcribed and are available in pdf form along with the lessons. On screen graphics with chords and scales are provided when it’s your turn to Jam.
This tutorial is an exciting way to interact with Sam while learning new licks and phrases performed in a real musical environment. This DVD is designed to be an enjoyable musical experience for everyone. Whether your style you will find this tutorial fun and inspiring. Enjoy!

Mask of Judas have just returned from a busy summer of shows and touring. And now they plan on locking themselves in a dark room over the winter as they work on a finishing a brand new album. The album writing is going strong with half the material already written. The band plans to record in early 2015. In the mean time you can catch up with studio updates and much more on Mask of Judas’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Pages!
Hello Internet People! Here is an update of what I have been up to recently. Before I go in with the main stuff I would like to mention that the NEW Mask of Judas single will be out tantalisingly soon!
First of all. A couple of weekends ago I was at the London Acoustic Guitar show on the Electric floor demoing guitars for Ibanez and amps for Laney. I met and saw a lot of amazing musicians, it was a fantastic day! Here is me playing on one of the Premium Steve Vai models of guitar. I love it!
Mask of Judas have their last gig OF THIS YEAR on Friday in Hastings at The Carlisle. This is our last outing for a little while as we are hibernating to get the rest of the new material written and ready to record for the album!
I have also recently over the last two weeks completed TWO videos going through my home recording set up and guitars. This is something I have quite a few questions about, so I hope it answers some of those!
On top of that I have been very busy putting together some new columns for Guitar Interactive Magazine, my Jam With Sam DVD is nearing completion and I have an exciting new collaboration with Jake Guy on the horizon. Oh! And the new Mask of Judas single will be out VERY SOON!
